#CapitalCrime24 Event – Argylle – Authors of Mystery @CapitalCrime1 @karlou @JoyKluver

‘Who is Elly Conway?’ has probably been one the biggest questions in publishing in recent times. Secrecy around the debut author led to wild theories, including the possibility that it was a pen name for Taylor Swift. Just ahead of the film being released, the ‘cat’ was let out of the bag (see what I did there). Elly Conway was not one author but two – Terry Hayes and Tammy Cohen. Both very experienced writers. And now, they’re going to be talking to Jake Kerridge at Capital Crime on Friday 31st May at 3.05pm, at the Royal Leonardo Hotel, St. Paul’s, 10 Godliman Street, London, EC4V 5AJ.

If you didn’t know this already, the book is very different from the film. Whereas Elly Conway features in the film, she doesn’t in the book. It’s a spy thriller with Agent Argylle as the main protagonist. Here’s the blurb.

The blurb
One Russian magnate’s dream of restoring a nation to greatness has set in motion a chain of events which will take the world to the brink of chaos. Only Frances Coffey, the CIA’s most legendary spymaster, can prevent it. But to do so, she needs someone special.

Enter Argylle. His life came to a crashing halt as a teenager. Since then he has been treading water, building barriers between himself and the world. Until one moment of compassion and brilliance will bring him to the attention of the most powerful woman in the secret world.

Coffey knows all about Argylle’s dark past. She knows it haunts him. But she also knows it may give him the skills to join the team going up against one of the most powerful men in the world. His crash course in espionage will take him from the jungles of Thailand to the boulevards of Monaco, from the monasteries of Mount Athos to a forgotten cavern buried deep in the mountains.

It is a deathly rollercoaster ride that will either make him – or break him…

So, come along on Friday 31st May to hear all about how Elly Conway came into being and how Argylle was created. You can buy tickets here. And if you want to watch the movie, it’s now showing on Apple TV. I loved the film so I’m really looking forward to this event.

Authors

Terry Hayes

Terry Hayes is the New York Times bestselling author of I Am Pilgrim and the award-winning writer and producer of numerous movies. His credits include Payback, Road Warrior, and Dead Calm (featuring Nicole Kidman). He lives in Switzerland with his wife, Kristen, and their four children.

Tammy Cohen

Tammy Cohen is the author of six psychological thrillers, the latest of which is The Wedding Party. She is fascinated by the darker side of human psychology. Her books explore how ‘ordinary’ people react when pushed into a corner, the parts of ourselves we hide from the world – and from ourselves. Previously she also wrote three commercial women’s fiction novels as Tamar Cohen debuting with The Mistress’s Revenge which was translated all round the world. In addition, she has written three historical novels under the pseudonym of Rachel Rhys. The first, Dangerous Crossing, was a Richard & Judy book club pick in Autumn 2017. She is a member of the Killer Women crime writing collective and lives in North London with her partner and three (allegedly) grown up children and her highly neurotic rescue dog.
